New on Spotify: Short Form Video and Countdown Pages for Artists

Last week, Spotify’s Stream On event saw the DSP launch some exciting new features to help artists amplify their presence across Spotify. Let’s take a closer look.
Clips
Spotify has stepped into the world of short form video with Clips. Clips can be up to 30 seconds long and can be attached to artist profiles, tracks and albums, both released and unreleased. They’ll also be featured on Spotify’s new Countdown Pages, alongside pre-saves and release timers. Spotify says the new feature is designed to drive streams, not likes, by providing easy access to artist’s music, after users view them.
Countdown Pages
Spotify also announced the launch of Countdown Pages, where users can pre-save upcoming releases. Early tests conducted by Spotify saw 80% of pre-savers streaming releases within their first week.
You can check out Ed Sheeran’s Countdown Page for a glimpse of what to expect from the new feature, that offers artists an opportunity to partner the countdown with video content.
In the past, we’ve seen artists utilise their Spotify Canvases in some really creative ways. The launch of Clips and Countdown Pages could present an opportunity to expand on this.
With up to 30 seconds of content, artists could use their Clips to hide Easter Eggs, tease future releases or even just provide some further context to their latest releases for fans.

The acquisition will enable Metallica to streamline the vinyl production process and meet the growing demand for vinyl records. Boygenius has surprised travellers at the Austin Airport Baggage Claim. The trio of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker performed an acoustic set mostly made up of new material from their forthcoming album The Record, due March 31.
Speeding up songs is gaining traction in the music industry. Thanks to platforms like TikTok, the trend of speeding up songs is all the rage these days. Labels are hopping on board by remixing tracks with upbeat tempos to revitalize them and attract more streams.
Five seconds is all you have to catch the listeners attention. This is according to a recent report that suggests the first five seconds of a song can make or break its success, as that's how long it takes for listeners to decide if they like it or not. In a world where attention spans are shorter than ever, you can add this to the list of challenges the music industry is facing.
Elsewhere, a Brooklyn-based music venue, has launched a new digital membership club. The membership, which starts at $2 per month, offers members access to special offers, discounts, reserved tickets, free merch and more. Elsewhere hopes the scheme will provide a new revenue stream while also giving fans a deeper connection to the venue and its community.
