What TikTok Trends Taught Us in 2022

TikTok

As we near the end of another year, TikTok has unveiled Year on TikTok: 2022, truly #ForYou, a look at the content and creators that have trended this year. TikTok's report has taught us some lessons about content consumption trends on the platform. It’s never too late to reinvent A few weeks ago, we reported on TikTok's love for sped up songs. Many artists have experienced a surge in streams, after sped up versions of their songs have been shared on the app. Demi Lovato’s ‘Cool For The Summer’ was one of them. A sped up version of 'Cool For The Summer' has made it into TikTok’s Global trending tunes list, seven years after the original single release. When Louis Theroux joined Amelia Dimoldenberg for an episode of Chicken Shop Date, he revisited the old ‘Jiggle Jiggle’ rap, from an episode of his Weird Weekends docuseries. The rap was picked up by Duke & Jones, who remixed the track and posted it to TikTok, in all its auto-tuned glory. That remix was this year’s 8th most trending tune. It seems TikTok knows how to teach an old dog new tricks. In with the old and the new This year reminded us that TikTok has an appreciation for music, new and old. WILLOW's 'Wait A Minute' and 'Yung Lean's 'Ginseng Strip 2002', both made the list of most trending songs globally, but were initially released in 2015 and 2013, respectively. Trends come in all shapes and sizes From Rosalía’s gum chewing, to Lizzo's 'About Damn Time' dance, many of TikTok's biggest tracks were accompanied by their own trends. Judging by the year’s trending creators and songs, many different video formats have caught the attention of TikTok users in 2022.Year on TikTok: 2022, truly #ForYou Is available to read in full, here
